Do NOT use this company! Worst move I could possibly have imagined in my worst nightmare. Velocity was subcontracted by International Van Lines to move a two-room apartment in NYC to Santa Fe, NM. I don’t recommend IVL either. The customer service from both companies was unresponsive, unprofessional and discourteous. As soon as the crew walked in the door, the crew lead asked me, demanded really, that I tip his crew 12%, and they had yet to do any work! I’m a fair tipper, but that amount (as I googled immediately) is above norm. The lead then proceeded to say I had much more inventory than listed, which was a lie. We actually carefully compared his list with mine, several times, and there was no discrepancy. He told me to pay him an extra $900 anyway or he would leave my move on the loading dock. This is extortion. I had no witnesses so at the very least have someone with you if you end up with this company. I had provided IVL with an accurate inventory list, updating it as requested two days prior to the move. I paid extra for the new (very accurate) inventory plus extra fees for “professional” packing for one set of china dishes and paintings. I had specifically requested picture boxes. The crew arrived without any. They chopped up some boxes and stuffed in my paintings with no protective wrapping (see photos). The china plates were stacked with no cushioning between them and covered with two pieces of tissue paper (see photos). I gave the lead the agreed contractual amount plus a $200 tip (for 3 hours work) which he threw on the kitchen counter. I tried to reach IVL the whole time Velocity was in the apartment, but IVL never picked up or returned my calls. When it was apparent I was not going to pay the unauthorized amount, he grabbed the check and cash and took off. This man was especially aggressive, unpleasant and downright scary. I believe he was capable of dumping my possessions on the side of a highway without remorse. I called and emailed both Velocity and IVL several times a day for an ENTIRE WEEK with NO response from either company while I drove to my new location, worried about my belongings the whole time. Finally IVL called back and assured me that my move was safely stored in Velocity’s storage warehouse in NJ. NOT. When the shipment arrived, MISSING was a valuable Oriental rug and MISSING was a large, plastic bin with table linens handed down from my mother and grandmother. Missing? An 8x10 rug?! Picture frames were broken, the china was smashed and there were chips off many pieces of furniture. Steer clear of this company. Above and beyond the loss and heartbreak, this was a very traumatic experience.Read more

My move cross country from Philadelphia was brokered out to Velocity Moving and Storage by International Van Lines (IVL) summer of 2022. In one word, the job they did was atrocious.

I made the mistake of putting faith in a Forbes article praising IVL and ultimately went with the company based on that and the lower quote I was given compared to two other leading companies, which as it turns out was nothing more than a drastic under quote as I was hit with some big overages upon loading of the truck (an additional $2400), and it only got worse from there. Also of note, Justin and Karen at IVL were very responsive to the point of money being exchanged, then crickets.

The movers from Velocity Moving didn't bring enough packing materials, which led to them having to come back the next morning (What? You have to reserve parking and elevator time weeks in advance for a move in a big city apartment.). Worse were the astonishing and blatant shortcuts taken in packing and loading. It was exhausting feeling like I had to keep an eye on all three guys all day to try to minimize the shortcuts being taken, and I ultimately couldn’t to any avail. So many things went into boxes loose and unwrapped, touching and piled on top of each other. Speed was clearly the priority and not protection of belongings or minimizing them being lost. Examples of cringe worthy things observed: wooden bar stools covered with nothing but packing paper, dining table inverted right onto filthy, gritty floor rather than onto a blanket for disassembly, road bicycle handlebar damaged, shelving unit that they didn’t break down came apart down the hallway and was left before dropping it into a large box after I inquired about it, and the components were never all recovered, multiple sets of screws and shelf pegs got separated from the furniture they belong to, removable glass from a bar cart and side table were left in place and just put on the truck, framed art unwrapped and all shoved in a box together, TV prepped by placing cardboard over the screen with the metal plug on the screen, an area rug was properly rolled so it was as short as possible, but then the rolled rug was folded in half and taped that way. Multiple chunks were taken out of the walls and there were scuff marks galore. This was just during packing.

Regarding the overages, multiple pieces of furniture were not disassembled. I asked about disassembly and they replied, “I can break it down if you want.” You can guess how that ended (they didn't). In the end there wasn’t enough space on the 26 foot truck. My wife and I started disassembling things ourselves at our second stop to try to save space and because we knew they would be better protected that way and the movers weren’t going to do it, but it was too insignificant at this point. We then had to wait for a second truck to come and pick up a few items, and pay for it. Asinine as the same move was made on a single 20 foot truck a year prior.

On the other side, weeks later (they deliver within a month, you don't get to pick the day), the damages were significant. Even a moving insurance agent was appalled by the claim and photos of damages, particularly interested in their packing of a flatscreen TV with items all around it including an ironing board, which rubbed and scratched the TV. Dents, chips, scratches, and tape residue EVERYWHERE. Hole right through a coffee table. Two nightstands with shelves and legs smashed off. Missing boxes and items. It goes on (see photos--just a small sampling). Had to go through a long third party insurance claim (not Velocity's--terrible reputation and claims process) and recovered nothing beyond the price of the insurance with deductible. Velocity compensated zero despite the manager ('Mr. Oliver') saying they would take care of us due to their negligence. Thing of nightmares.

Do yourself a favor, avoid Velocity Moving at all costs, and by extension International Van Lines. How Velocity is in business and whey IVL trusts your move to such a company is beyond me. I will never use either again.

We had the unfortinate luck to be subcontracted to this company from International Van lines. Velocity was great at our pickup in PA, professional truck and crew. The trouble started when Velocity sub contracted us out to a cheap small trucking company to complete our move to FL.

We were told it would just be International and Velocity handling our move and had no idea our things and business would be passed to a 3rd vendor.

This third vendor hired by Velocity did not give us 24-48 hours notice, but rather only an hour notice on a Sunday morning, then Velocity blamed US for not being ready for the delivery. Velocity also boldly lied to International van lines saying we were contacted two days prior to drop off and it was our fault we were not ready.

In addition to total lack of logistics and customer service, the driver hired to make the drop off did not even try to fit his truck in the HOA approved space which was large enough for the semi. Instead they just crossloaded and upcharged us. Also, the 6 man moving crew in PA was now just the truck driver and his friend he brought with him to help in FL. Things have been lost, damaged, and the property was damaged as well.

Velocity has our money and does not care to make any of this right at all.

STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY AND INTERNATIONAL VAN LINES

It's hard to imagine worse moving company.

Before you pay them money they would tell you things like 'your move will take maximum 5 days, we put in a contract 21 just in case of some extraordinary situation happens', in reality, as soon as you pay them money, they say things like 'you signed a contract, we have 21 business days to deliver your things'. So be prepared to stay one month in a hotel if you hire this company. They have no intention to make your move good. When I called customer service a guy would say things like 'you changed your delivery date so many times', '6K is not much money, just wait 21 days'. Absolutely disgusting customer service. I have all emails with pick up and delivery date clearly stated. Oliver just a very unpleasant person who literally would gaslight me and invent things like 'you were not ready to receive furniture' and 'you changed your date so many times that's why it's delayed'. I have every email and every piece of communication, and that person Oliver just a disgrace to humanity. When I told him that we paid over 6K already, he laughed and said '6K is not much and don't bother me on a weekend'. Disgusting. Everything was extremely delayed, the dates were messed up and no one knew what was going on. I don't understand how they put person like Oliver to work in customer service? I doubt he could do any good work. He is great at gaslighting and humiliating.

Every single piece of our furniture was damaged! They also made a hole in our wall, damaged a staircase! We had a new house, just renovated, and movers came in with zero regard for our furniture or our house, made a literal hole in the wall. Please tell me how much worse it could be?

They will charge you so much more money than they initially tell you. They charge by sq.ft, so they would pack something tiny in the big box and change you extra. Also, they ask if 18 wheeler can come to the place and deliver furniture. We found out from neighbors and HOA that 18 wheeler will have no issues, however movers told us that 'we cannot maneuver' and they asked for more money to get uhaul and deliver things on a smaller track.

On delivery they didn't assembly majority of our furniture and said 'they had other deliveries'.

To sum up: broken furniture, damaged house, overcharged move, and horrible customer service.

Please, please, please, do yourself a favor and avoid this company!

If you already paid and reading this, at least get a third party insurance company to at least get money from this place after all your furniture is damaged and parts a lost.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Please read all the reviews before you even considering this company. I moved long distance New York to Denver. For this move I choose a highly rated company to pack contents and fully unpack and dispose of trash. My job was then passed on to Velocity after I had given a sizable deposit to the other company who passed the job on. Then the nightmare began. The truck arrived late, I was never informed the they would not meet the date. When I called the said, “didn’t you read the fine print we have 21 days.” Well I gusss 21 days would have been better than 29/30 days without furniture and clothes. So get this, they hire people to unpack and unload from CRAIGSLIST!!!!!!! REALLY CRAIGSLIST!!!!!! So promptly on the first day one of the Craigslist workers robs the cab of the truck, steals the drivers wallet and stashes my custom mattress. Naturally the police had to be called in.

So, almost everything piece of furniture had scratches or was broken, the Chinese medicine cabinet had its hinges ripped off, antique mint condition singer sewing machine is broken and cracked in multiple locations, expensise glass broken, ceramic art broken and a very large porcelain lamp from grandmother shattered and the list goes on.

If you want to hire a top notch cross country moving company don’t even consider this one just look under cross country movers on CRAIGSLIST.
