Sirelo’s View on Reviews
Choosing a moving company means trusting someone with your precious and personal belongings. Historically, the moving industry has lacked independent reviews, leaving customers unable to gain insight into the service quality until after their moves.
Since 2016, we at Sirelo have worked hard on changing that. We believe:
- Reputation should be based on genuine customer experience.
- Both the customer and the moving company should be able to share their perspective.
- Reviews must be moderated fairly to maintain credibility.
Sirelo, a Platform for Both Sides
- Customers can publish their experience.
- Moving companies can post a public response.
This ensures transparency and allows users to see both sides of the story.
How We Verify Our Reviews
Sirelo, as an independent review platform, cannot guarantee that every review is authentic. However, we apply a two-step quality assurance check to minimize the risk of inauthentic submissions.
Step 1: Automatic Metadata Check
Each review is automatically analyzed to identify unusual patterns. This process helps us distinguish genuine feedback from potential fake reviews.
Results: Approximately 20–25% of all submitted reviews are rejected at this stage.
Step 2: Manual Content Check
Our internal moderation team evaluates each review for:
- Offensive or discriminatory language
- Personally identifiable information
- Consistency between the narrative and metadata
- Valid customer contact details
If authenticity is still unclear, we send a verification request asking for simple proof of the move (e.g., a quote or invoice), and all reviews left by consumers who didn’t use our service are required to file proof of their move.
Your data is safe with us: any information you leave in a review will never be shared with moving companies or others.
Reviews We Do Not Accept
- Reviews written by moving company staff or suppliers
- Reviews written by the company about itself or competitors
- Reviews submitted on behalf of someone else
- Reviews that appear incentivized or coerced
Additional Verification
If a review still requires further validation:
- We email the customer requesting confirmation and supporting documentation.
- If the customer does not respond, the review is rejected.
- Writers are always notified of moderation decisions.
How We Calculate Review Scores
Review scores on Sirelo are displayed on a scale of 1 to 10.
Each new published review triggers an automatic recalculation based on three weighted factors:
Age of the Review
- The newer the review, the higher the impact.
- Older reviews matter less because service quality varies over time.
Trustworthiness
Verified reviews receive more weight. Examples of higher-trust reviews:
- Verified via documentation
- Verified through metadata consistency
- Long-form, detailed customer accounts
Bayesian Average
To avoid misleading scores when a company has only a few reviews, we apply a Bayesian correction by adding 3.5-star reviews into the calculation. This helps balance the overall rating when there are very few reviews, whether they are very positive or very negative.
Example in practice:
- Company A: one 5-star review
- Company B: fifty 5-star reviews
A simple average would show the same score, which is not fair.
Bayesian averaging ensures:- More reviews = more reliable score
- Few reviews = score adjusted toward the platform average
Total Review Score: How We Keep Ratings Current
The overall company score at the top of a profile is not a simple average. It comes from:
Time Weighting
- Reviews count fully for 2 years
- Their influence gradually decreases after this
- At 5 years, a review no longer affects the total score
Reason: A company can significantly improve or decline over time, which is why prioritizing recent reviews gives the most accurate representation of the current service quality.
Reliability Weighting
Each review receives an internal reliability score based on:
- Verification level
- Completeness
- Metadata consistency
- Content quality
More reliable reviews influence the score more heavily.
How Review Reliability Is Assessed
If a moving company has a Google profile, we periodically retrieve its Google review score along with the total number of reviews. These Google reviews are included in the overall Sirelo score, but they carry less weight than reviews submitted directly to Sirelo.
To ensure a fair balance, ten Google reviews are treated as the equivalent of one Sirelo review. This reflects the difference in verification standards: Google is a reliable review source, but its reviews are not authenticated as thoroughly as those we process through our own verification system.
