I would not recommend CDMovers. Spend the extra money and choose another company.

I booked with Courtney on Nov 14th, well in advanced for my move on Dec 13th. I decided to use his company since his rate was lower in comparison to others and he initially seemed dedicated to getting the job done. I paid a $100 deposit on 11/14 “to get supplies” for the move. THE DAY BEFORE my move, he calls me stating he isn’t prepared for the move due to a personal conflict with his brother in law. He asked me for another $100 “to get materials” again because of the issue with his brother in law despite already paying a deposit a month prior. We agreed to start the move at 10AM. The DAY OF the move he calls me at 9:35am stating he was “getting the truck and supplies”. At 9:53 he calls again stating UHaul is out of trucks until 3pm. I had to encourage him to contact other companies to find a truck because I did not want to wait until 3pm to start moving and U-Haul availability was not guaranteed. Ultimately, he and his crew did not show up to my apartment until 1:45pm with multiple excuses as to why they were late including another, completely different excuse related to his brother in law and niece. I started calling other companies during the interim since I wasn’t confident he was going to show at all and every company was booked since I was trying to get someone for a same day move. I was placed in a stressful situation due to his poor planning. During the move itself, it was obvious his crew were not skilled movers but just friends of his. My things (specifically kitchenware) could’ve been handled more carefully and the boxes were taped carelessly. He mentioned intentions of wrapping my canvas art pieces multiple times and never did. Despite paying a deposit for “supplies” all of the boxes (with the exception of wardrobe boxes) were already used with tape and writing on them from previous moves. He came with one bundle of packing paper, no bubble wrap and only one fabric furniture protector, and not enough boxes. When attempting to move my couch, he stated it wouldn’t fit on the elevator so there would be a $50 fee to carry the couch up the stairs. I expressed to him that I typically wouldn’t mind paying an extra fee at all but given the circumstances (showing up hours late) it seemed reasonable to waive the fee. His response was “At least we showed up. Most people would’ve just backed out”. Miraculously, my couch fit on the elevator after all so I’m not sure how legitimate the idea of it not being able to fit on the elevator was to begin with. As a Black woman myself, I’m all for supporting Black-owned businesses but when I pay for a service I expect the service to be done well, and this job was unprofessionally and haphazardly done from start to finish.Read more
