I am in Athens, Greece, awaiting my 12 boxes of personal items that are coming from San Francisco, California.
It was initially difficult because my friends in San Francisco had to coordinate through me to Gabriel of the shipping company who is in New York.
I was 10 hours ahead in Athens, Greece, and around the world, but the pickup went smoothly in San Francisco, said my friends.
The delivery pickup was on time. One of the stickers didn’t want to stick to the antique typewriter, but the driver had extra tape and helped move all the heavy boxes of books quickly.
Things are currently held up in customs, so I don’t have the delivery yet, but I have faith that they will arrive soon.

The price and communication before I chose. Most of the moving companies were WAY more expensive, and because the items being moved had no REAL value (they were clothes, art, books, papers, memories, photographs, and albums), it was hard to justify the price of some of the quotes.
I also thought I’d have to wait for many months on a ship, but they were sent by airline, so the travel time from San Francisco was just over a week, even though the packages were delayed in customs here in Greece. Once the customs were involved, Gabriel was still helpful.
Choose a communicative moving company and have a printer handy.
Purchase good, new, sturdy bankers boxes with handles and lids.
Try not to overpack too many heavy books in one box.
Decide if you really need the item and only pack what is really important because weight determines the price and books are heavy.
Estimate the weight of your boxes and make a detailed list while packing them.
Number your boxes with the list and measure dimensions.
The more prepared you are, the easier it is.
Even with my disorganization, Gabriel was super patient.
