They send your shipment by Air Freight or by Sea Freight. Which is best for you? The advantage of Air Service is the transit time is generally 5 to 8 days, airport to airport, or door to door, including custom clearance and delivery. If you have a smaller shipment, Air Service would be simpler and cheaper. Or, you perhaps need your shipment delivered as quickly as possible. The advantage of Sea Shipping is that it is charged only by the size of your packaged items, not by the weight. Sea Shipping does take longer to reach your destination, but if you have a lot of weight to send, this would be the most economical way to move your shipment. Packaged arrived completely damaged and unusable. Money was not refundable (insurance only covers lost/stolen packages). Most importantly, the company was not transparent about the fees. It claimed that the amount I was paying them covered all shipping fees and 'clearing customs'. However, when the package arrived at the UK boarder, I received a notification from DHL stating that I need to pay a £159.44 import tax in order for the package to be allowed to enter the country. Clearly American baggage did not clarify to customs that this item was not being imported for resale. Moreover the high tax must have been calculated based off of the product value I provided to American baggage for the insurance, which was the price I paid for the product when it was new (i.e. replacement cost). Note that I am currently disputing this with UK customs via the HMRC website since the item was not for resale. However, it has been a few weeks and I have not heard back.

The communication from [Name removed by Sirelo] was absolutely pathetic. I confirmed a shipping date for a Monday, as of Friday before he had still not arranged it. He wasn't clear that I had to arrange my own pallet and have that already palletized on pickup. Then changed to say I had to deliver the goods 3+ hours away to have it palletized. He was rude and condescending all through my engagement. I went with a different shipper at the last minute because he was so unprofessional.

We shipped our personal items through discountshipping.us. There has been poor communication regarding our shipment, only providing updates upon request. There are repeated delays and usually zero explanation is provided. Prior to payment the company provided a shipping estimate of 6 weeks, but the shipment finally arrived at 21 weeks after drop-off. I asked for a partial refund but was told it was out of their control. Looking through reviews online I found others who had the same experience, so I doubt that this is repeatedly out of their control. The shipping took approximately 19 weeks. The final two weeks were due to customs, it would have been nice if they would have provided me ANY information about customs prior to shipment to smooth the transition. Approximately half of our shipment is children's clothing which no longer fits them and/or is the wrong season. We have had to buy much new clothing, obviously at our expense. Would not recommend unless you're okay with your stuff arriving 6 months late.Read more

• Insurance coverage for damage
Your monitor was insured with DHL for $1,000, which does include coverage for damage — not only loss or theft. We tried multiple times to assist with filing the claim on your behalf, and we requested the required photos of the packaging before and after delivery so DHL could investigate. Unfortunately, we did not receive those photos from you, which meant we were unable to submit the claim to DHL. We are still happy to help if those images become available.
• Customs duties & VAT in the UK
We completely understand how frustrating unexpected import charges can be. However, UK Customs controls duties and VAT — not the carrier or us. Our contract, which was provided and sig ned prior to shipment, clearly states that local duties and taxes are not included in the shipping cost and may be collected by the destination country.
We are glad to hear you have already submitted your dispute to HMRC, and if you need any supporting documentation from us, we will provide it.
